Health & Safety Notice
BloodBridge connects voluntary blood donors with people who need blood. Donating and receiving blood are medical acts — they should always go through a licensed blood centre or hospital. Read this notice carefully before you use the platform.
1. In an emergency, call a hospital first
If a patient is critical, do not rely on the platform alone. Call:
- 108 / 102 — ambulance and emergency response.
- The hospital's blood bank directly — they often have stock.
- State e-Raktkosh portal (eraktkosh.mohfw.gov.in) to locate licensed blood centres.
BloodBridge can take time to find a match. It is a complement to, not a replacement for, official channels.
2. Donating is voluntary and unpaid
Under Section 27 of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940, the sale or purchase of blood is a criminal offence in India. On BloodBridge:
- Money or gifts must not be exchanged for blood.
- If anyone asks you to pay a donor, refuse and report it to us.
3. Donor eligibility (NBTC / NACO summary)
You may donate whole blood if you:
- are between 18 and 65 years old,
- weigh at least 45 kg,
- have haemoglobin of at least 12.5 g/dL,
- have not donated whole blood in the last 90 days (men) or 120 days (women); platelets/plasma intervals are shorter,
- are feeling well, have eaten in the last few hours, and are well hydrated.
4. Common reasons to defer (not a complete list)
- Cold, fever, or infection in the last 1–2 weeks.
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding (defer until 6–12 months after delivery).
- Tattoo, piercing, or major dental work in the last 6 months.
- Recent surgery (defer at least 6 months).
- Certain medications, vaccinations, or chronic conditions.
- High-risk behaviours that would make blood unsafe.
The blood centre will run a final medical screening before you donate. Their decision is final.
5. We do not verify donor information
Donor profiles on BloodBridge are self-declared. We do not verify blood group, age, health status, or any document. Always cross-check at the blood bank before any transfusion. BloodBridge is not a substitute for medical advice.
6. Privacy & safety when meeting
- Use the in-platform messaging to coordinate — we keep an audit trail.
- Meet at the blood bank or hospital, not at private addresses.
- Report harassment, payment requests, or impersonation to us immediately.
7. Reporting concerns
Email ankit@bloodbridge.live.
This notice summarises public guidance from NACO, NBTC, and the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940 for general information only. It is not medical advice. For specific eligibility, ask a doctor or your local blood centre.
